Anise is an aromatic plant of the umbelliferae family (like cumin, carrot or parsley) native to Asia. Today cultivated in temperate zones, anise is appreciated as much for its taste as for its smell. Its seeds have been used since ancient Egypt to treat digestive problems and to give oneself fresh breath! In perfumery, the plant is fully hydrodistilled to obtain a very fragrant essential oil. Its perfume is aromatic and reveals green and herbaceous notes. If in its form the star anise is rather different, their smells are however quite similar, with an aspect a little spicier for the star one. It is easily integrated into woody fragrances, chypre or ferny accords to distill a true aromatic freshness.
