Basil is a plant native to Asia, which is now cultivated in Europe, Morocco but also in Reunion Island. Ingredient with mystical powers in certain cultures, basil is highly prized for its aromatic flavors, in cooking as well as in perfumery. The nose uses the essential oil of basil to embellish the compositions. This essence is obtained by steam distillation of the leaves as well as the flowering tips of the plant. Its perfume generally takes place in chypre, aromatic or citrusy fragrances. The notes of basil are aniseed, herbaceous with a small vinegar and spicy side.
