Camphor comes from a large tree native to the Far East, belonging to the lauraceae family. To obtain camphor essential oil, the branches of the tree are chipped and then steam-distilled. This material has been used for thousands of years for its therapeutic virtues. In perfumery, its essence is an excellent fixative generally positioned as a base note of the olfactory pyramid. Its scent is typically medicinal, intense and fresh at the same time. This ingredient is often found in aromatic and chypre fragrances. This ingredient is also used by perfumers to reconstitute other essences such as rosemary or eucalyptus.
