The date is the small brown and fleshy fruit of the date tree, native to North Africa. It is a very popular staple food in the Middle East, which is used in the composition of many dishes. Depending on the variety, they are more or less sweet and can be eaten fresh or dried.
As for perfumery and as for most fruits, it is impossible to extract an essential oil from the flesh of the date. Its sweet and gourmand notes are thus reproduced by the assembly of several odorant molecules in laboratory. The note of date is still little used in the fragrance. It is beginning to creep into certain oriental fragrances, as if to echo its origins. The scent of the date goes very well with citrus, spices like saffron or cinnamon and of course fruit notes.
