The freesia is a small decorative and fragrant plant native to South Africa, and particularly to the Cape region. It is cultivated for its beautiful flowers with bright colors and for the bewitching scent which they release. This bulbous plant belongs to the iridaceae, just like the iris. The flowers bloom in spring in beautiful white, yellow or purple clusters. The flowers give off a heady smell that is very reminiscent of jasmine. Despite its powerful natural odor, it is impossible to extract an essence from freesia. Its notes are therefore reproduced in the laboratory by assembling other raw materials or using the head space technique. Thus recreated, the perfume of freesia brings floral and luminous nuances to compositions. The nose can detect fruity and sweet accents, with an impression of orange blossom.
