Gardenia is a small shrub native to China, which produces beautiful white flowers with a bewitching scent in spring. Difficult to cultivate, this plant is also complex to use for perfumers because it is not possible to extract an essential oil from the flowers. Its perfume is therefore reproduced thanks to the assembly of several natural essences and synthetic molecules. Also called Cape jasmine, gardenia was Coco Chanel’s favorite flower. Its floral and fruity scent is mainly used in high-end feminine creations. Its scent is subtle but persistent, with green and fresh tones, reminiscent of jasmine and tuberose, with occasional metallic accents.
