The scent of freshly cut hay is a true reminder of nature’s bucolic charm. With the evolution of olfactory trends, the return to more “natural” and raw scents was quickly felt. This is how a new raw material arrived: hay. Perfumers can now use hay absolute, produced mainly in the south of France. To obtain this fragrant ingredient, several varieties of herbs are dried and distilled with steam before being extracted with volatile solvents. This absolute reveals soft, herbaceous and dry nuances at the same time, which evoke tobacco. Noses use this ingredient in fern perfumes, but also in oriental compositions or gourmand fragrances.
