Lychee

The lychee is a small fruit from a tropical tree of the same name originating from China where it is still cultivated. It has also been found for several years in Reunion Island and Madagascar. Often called “the China cherry”, the lychee grows in clusters on the tree. When ripe, its shell is colored with beautiful red and pink shades. Inside this solid envelope hides a fruit with juicy white flesh that contains a stone. Packed with vitamin C, the fruit reveals a delicious taste, between rose, strawberry and muscat. As with many fruits, no essence can be extracted from the flesh of the lychee. Its exotic smell is recreated through synthetic chemistry. Its fruity yet green note often enlivens women’s fragrances. The perfume of lychee is reminiscent of rose and geranium. Therefore, it is particularly well suited to floral bouquets in which it brings a nice fruity touch.
