Mugwort

The mugwort is an herbaceous plant of the family of the asteraceous. In this family, we also find the wormwood and the tarragon. On the dry and sunny grounds, the plant can reach 1 meter height. It grows wild in the Mediterranean regions, in Europe but also in North Africa and more particularly in Morocco which is the principal producer. There are hundreds of varieties of this plant. To obtain an essential oil, the leaves of various varieties of mugwort are steam distilled. This essence is among the aromatic notes thanks to its camphorated and herbaceous nuances, with bitterness. That’s why we mainly find mugwort in fern or chypre accords, to bring virility and character.
