The narcissus is an herbaceous perennial plant. It comes from the family Amaryllidaceae. These bulbs with yellow and white flowers are mainly produced in France, particularly in Auvergne. But we can also find it in Egypt and Morocco. To use narcissus in perfumery, it is possible to extract the flowers with volatile solvents and then wash them with alcohol to obtain narcissus absolute. This perfumed product is very fragrant and reveals vegetal and floral notes as well as animal tones and greasy sensations. Narcissus absolute is often used in luxury perfumery to create chypre and floral formulas.
