In perfumery, some ingredients can sometimes seem surprising… And this is the case of the tomato leaf! If this fruit (yes, the tomato is indeed a fruit) is known by all for its fresh and summery taste, its leaves have found a more discreet way in perfumery. From the end of the 19th century, some avant-garde noses sought to renew scents that were too floral or too woody. Tonic and chypre notes were born.
The tomato leaf is an accord that does not exist in its natural state. Its smell is thus reproduced in a laboratory. This synthetic material reveals a fresh and herbaceous perfume par excellence. This scent is lively, green, almost “crunchy”. It is often used as a base note in a fragrance. The tomato leaf accord enables to enhance a floral or citrus wake by adding power. As in the plate, we often associate with the tomato leaf aromatic notes of parsley or basil.
