Shiso is a plant of the Lamiaceae family, which means that its leaves are fragrant. Also called perilla, this “Japanese parsley” is widely used in Asian cuisine for its aromatic taste, between mint and basil. Shiso is also used in Chinese medicine for its soothing and healing benefits. The appearance of this plant in perfumery is however quite recent. Its essence is very rich and full of multiple facets. It reveals fresh, herbaceous and aromatic notes, but also diffuses more spicy and exotic tones. The shiso note can be found in a wide range of olfactory families, both in oriental compositions and in woody or citrusy juices.
